Jay Jones for Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia
April 3, 2025
A Trusted Voice. A Proven Leader. A Vision Rooted in the People.
Pooler, GA — Georgia Democrats are at a crossroads. After a challenging election cycle and a leadership transition at the top of the party, questions of trust, turnout, and structure are front and center. That is why veteran public servant and longtime community organizer Jay Jones is stepping up to run for Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia (DPG).
“This campaign is not about titles — It is about trust,” said Jones. “Trust in leadership, trust in the process, and trust that this party will fight for the people who have carried it through every storm.” With decades of experience in local government, faith-based service, and grassroots mobilization, Jones enters the race to restore trust, rebuild party infrastructure, and uplift the communities that have powered Democratic victories for generations. He is a former Certified Chatham County Commissioner and Vice Chair, past Chair of the Chatham Democratic Committee, and currently serves as First Congressional District Chair for the state party. Jones is also a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and former member of the 100 Black Men of Savannah, with a lifelong commitment to servant leadership in Georgia’s communities.
A Party That Sees Us, Serves Us, and Stands With Us
The state of Georgia is home to the third highest Black population in the country. For generations, Black women have been the backbone of the Democratic Party — leading campaigns, turning out voters, and anchoring communities through every cycle. Their unmatched strength and political power must always be recognized and honored.
But we must also face a hard truth: Black men are increasingly disengaging, not because they did not believe in democracy — but because they did not believe the party sees them. Jay Jones is stepping up to change that — not with lip service, but with active leadership.
And it is not just about who the party speaks to — but where. Too often, campaigns concentrate resources and attention in metro areas, leaving rural counties and small towns out of the equation. Jay believes every Georgian deserves to be seen, heard, and valued — whether they live in Atlanta or Alapaha, Savannah or Summerville.
“This campaign is about building a party where Black men are not just expected to show up — but empowered to lead. Where rural voters are not overlooked, and where our most loyal communities feel respected. We cannot afford to leave anyone behind.”
Rooted in Service. Ready to Lead.
Jay Jones has spent his life at the intersection of people and policy — bridging communities with purpose and pushing for solutions that matter. His record includes:
He holds coursework towards a Master’s in Community and Regional Planning from Savannah State University and a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science from Shaw University. A proud graduate of A.E. Beach High School, Jones lives in Pooler with his wife, Nakeisha and son Johannes commonly known as “The Botanical Boy.”
A Ground-Up Vision for Georgia
With national eyes on Georgia and 2026 on the horizon, Jones believes this is the moment to stop campaigning by calendar and start building permanent infrastructure that works every day — from rural towns to urban centers, and from the coastal plains to the mountains.
His platform includes:
“This moment calls for clarity, courage, and conviction,” said Jones. “Let us build a Democratic Party in Georgia that does not just react to elections — but prepares for the future, centers its people, and leads with purpose.”
Join the Movement. Support the Campaign.
Let’s build a Democratic Party that works — every day, for every voter.
